🕷️ Choosing a Mystery Hybrid (P. regius × otiosus)
These are captive bred hybrid jumping spiders (Phidippus regius × otiosus) from the parents shown. Each spider is well-established (i6+) and carefully hand-selected by us.
Hybrids between Phidippus regius and Phidippus otiosus can display a beautiful mix of traits from both species. Some may show bold contrast and coloration similar to regius, while others may develop traits more commonly seen in otiosus, such as green chelicerae, bright white face, and longer lashes in females, or tan or yellow abdominal spots in place of white in males.
These hybrids are also appreciated for combining personality traits from both species, including the hardiness and strong feeding response commonly seen in regius and the outgoing personalities often associated with otiosus.
Coloration and markings vary naturally within every clutch, and with hybrids, variation can be even more diverse, making each little spood unique and special 🕸️✨
